Athens

The Athenian Agora is one of the best preserved agoras in Greece. In its prime it was the heart of classical Athens. It was so surreal to be walking through a place that was once the center of culture in ancient times. It made me feel like I was back in those times, because little to no renovations have been done to this area. The Agora served as the political, economic, as well as religious center of the polis.

This picture in particular is of a structure in the Agora called the Monument of Eponymous Heroes which served as a notice board for each of the ten tribes that inhabited Athens. The notice board assigned responsibilities to each tribe and displayed notifications for the citizens of Athens. I guess this is how they got news around before twitter and facebook!
