Marathon

This is a picture of a burial mound that covers the bodies of Athenians who gave their lives at the Battle of Marathon. This battle took place during the first Persian invasion of Greece, and ended in a Greek victory. Walking around the battleground was a weird experience, because without knowing the history of the city, it is hard to believe that so much blood shed had taken place right where your'e stepping. While I was there I took a minute to appreciate the sacrifice those men had made. To this day the Greeks commemorate those who have fallen for the sake of their fellow Greeks.
