Athens

This is the Parthenon which is located in the Acropolis of Athens. It served as a temple of worship for the goddess Athena Parthenos, "Athena the Virgin", who is the patron goddess of Athens. It is a Doric order temple built in the mid 5th century. Inside of the temple sat a cult statue of the goddess but it was removed when the Parthenon was converted to a Christian church. Nonetheless this temple is the culmination of architecture and design in Ancient Greece.

The Pathenon is one of the main tourist attractions in Athens. To get there we waited in line for what seemed like forever! But it was well worth the wait, because the sight is breathtaking as you can see. They are currently doing reconstructions on the temple to undo some of the damage that erosion has done. I cant wait to see it after the reconstruction is done!
