Acropolis Museum- Athens

These are two of the statue columns that once stood at the Erectheion, which is an Ancient Greek temple used to worship Athena and Poseidon. The statues reflect the characteristics of the classical period they are from, which can be seen through the insane detail put into them. Although they are eroded, the faces are very detailed and express emotion. The dresses all have folds in them, but the impressive part is the change in texture of the dress and transparency of it around the forward leg. The individualization of each statue is unique. It may not be obvious in this picture, but each maiden have slightly different folds in her dress and her hair falls in different ways. I can only imagine the time and effort it took to customize each of these columns! It paid off though, because these maidens are beautiful.
