Temple of Aphaia

Aegina

This is the temple of Aphaia where the goddess Aphaia was worshiped exclusively at. Aphaia was a goddess who became associated with Athena and Artemis. It is a Doric order temple with pediments featuring the combination of Archaic and classical styles of sculpting.


This was one of my favorite temples, because it was a lot more intact than a lot of the others that we saw. I think it is simply amazing that these structures have withstood the test of time. I just wish that we were allowed to walk around inside of it!
