Herakloin Museum- Knossos

This is known as the Phaistos Disk. It is a clay disk that was stamped with hieroglyphics and then burned to Harden and preserve the stamped symbols. The writing system used this disk has not been deciphered yet, making it one of archeology's greatest mysteries. It was discovered in the Palace of Knossos in Crete.

I find it interesting how with all our knowledge and modern technology, we cant figure out how to read this disk. Some people are uncomfortable with dealing with not knowing, but for me it is what grabs my interest. This is one reason I am interested in neurology, because there is so much about the brain that remains a mystery to scientists. That is also why the Phaistos disk is one of my favorite things I saw on this trip. I found this tiny little disk that continues to perplex many scholars so interesting that I bought it as a necklace for my mom!
