Sparta

This is a monument dedicated to Leonidas and the 300 Spartans that dies at Thermopylae. Their actions and bravery are still celebrated in modern day Sparta. I am a big fan of the story of the 300 spartans and Leonidas, so I really enjoyed getting to visit this monument. In Greece, it is disrespectful to imitate the pose of a statue, so while I initially wanted to pose like a soldier in front of this monument, I instead took a picture where I am simply paying my respects to them for their sacrifice. The top inscription on the base of the statue is Greek for "Come take them." which was Leonidas' response tot he Persian army when they asked him and his men to lay down their weapons and surrender at the Battle of Thermopylae. Leonidas and his men would all die in that battle, but their actions and bravery will never be forgotten.
